Tips For Staying Healthy During Florida Summers Staying Hydrated
Drink enough water, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Check the color of urine when you pee, if it isn’t somewhat clear, you may need more fluids.
Talk to your doctor if you have to limit liquid intake to determine exactly how much you should be drinking each day.
Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages as they are known to dehydrate individuals, especially when in the hot sun. Sugar beverages can also contribute to dehydration, water is always the best option.
Going outside? Bring a bottle of water just in case.
When opting for a beverage or meal, try something cold as it can reduce body temperature.
Wear breathable, light colored, looser fitting clothing.
Stay in the shade and avoid direct sunlight if possible. If you are at the beach or pool, try taking breaks in the shade every so often to cool down or take a dip in the water.
Plan accordingly, the hottest times of the day are typically 11am-5pm. If possible, avoid being outdoors much during these times, especially if drinks and shade are not available.
If you don’t already own one, a nice hat can help block the sun without having to put any sunscreen on your face.
Apply sunscreen to any other areas that may have sun exposure. Depending upon how long you plan on staying outside and the outfit, it may be best to apply sunscreen even to areas clothes cover.
Popsicles, frozen fruit and melons in general can be a great way to get little ones to stay more hydrated throughout the day.
