The Benefits of Less Stress

Did you know that stress can wreak havoc on more than just your mind? People that are stressed are at a higher risk of getting sick and even having certain health conditions. When you are less stressed you tend to sleep better, get sick less often, get better quicker when sick and even be in an overall better mood. Interested in reducing your stress? Here are some at-home activities you can safely try.

Take A Bath

Taking a bath can calm your nerves along with tension in the body. We recommend adding some essential oils to your bath such as lavender which can provide another relaxing element to your bath. Even if you just have 15 minutes, that is enough time to fit in a nice relaxing bath to help soothe the soul.

Exercise

Exercise can actually release neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, providing the body with a nice calm feeling following any burst of activity. Whether you want to jog in place for a minute or do 50 jumping jacks, getting your heart rate up is a nice way to reduce stress.

Meditate

Many people find meditation to be a daunting task, but it shouldn’t be. Even just two minutes of focusing on your breathing can have profound effects on your overall stress level. We recommend finding a nice quiet place to just sit down and focus on your breathing for as many minutes as possible.

Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile)

If you’ve ever looked around at tea, especially the caffeine free variety, chances are you’ve seen Chamomile mentioned. Chamomile is an extremely popular herb that has been used for centuries to promote relaxation and reduce overall anxiety.

Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender)

Have you ever noticed Lavender is in a lot of products for babies? This is often due to the fact it can promote relaxation, improve sleep and reduce anxiety. Luckily, it isn’t only helpful for infants! Lavender has been shown to greatly improve anxiety when taken orally.

Melissa Officinalis (Lemon Balm)

This next plant isn’t quite as well known as the others on the list, but that doesn’t make it any less effective. Lemon Balm has been shown to reduce anxiety, improve mood and decrease rates of depression.

Valeriana Officinalis (Valerian Root)

Another common plant found in caffeine free tea varieties is Valerian, commonly listed as Valerian Root. Valerian has sedative properties and has been shown to change chemistry in parts of the brain often correlated with anxiety and stress. **As with anything you take, you should consult a professional before adding/changing anything related to your medical care.**
