Sound Therapy Clearwater, Florida

Sound Therapy, aka. Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) uses low frequency sound vibrations transmitted directly to the body, using specialized equipment, such as a table or lounge. Because it helps to regulate the nervous system, Sound Therapy studies are demonstrating benefits for many health conditions.

The low-frequency vibrations (20-200 Hz) that your body feels come from music designed specifically for this purpose. In our clinic, we use the InHarmony vibroacoustic table that you lie on, face up. It feels like pleasant humming or pulsing. Simultaneously, you hear the Sound Therapy music through headphones.

By experiencing the sound wave vibrations through both the body and the headphones, they physically resonate through your skin, muscles, bones, and brain. Your nervous system calms and regulates, muscles relax, tension melts away, brain wave oscillations synchronize, and your whole body-mind becomes more balanced, aligned & coherent.

While research is ongoing, we know that this therapy is beneficial for:

Relief of Stress, Anxiety & Depression: Vibroacoustic therapy promotes deep relaxation, with measurable reductions in stress and anxiety. Research shows increased parasympathetic activity (by vagus nerve stimulation) with marked relaxation and feelings of well-being. Studies also indicate that Sound Therapy helps restore the balance of the autonomic nervous system and is effective for the treatment of depression.

Improved Mood & Sleep: Sound Therapy can improve both mood and sleep quality. In a fibromyalgia trial, patients reported 65-70% improvement in mood, insomnia, and fatigue symptoms. Other studies also show vibroacoustic therapy enhances sleep quality and improves emotional regulation.

Pain Reduction (Acute & Chronic): Vibroacoustic Therapy consistently delivers pain-relieving effects and demonstrates anti-inflammatory properties. Studies report decreased chronic pain scores. For example, in a fibromyalgia study, Sound Therapy led to significant pain reduction and allowed 74% of patients to reduce or discontinue pain meds after 5 weeks of 2 weekly sessions.

Muscle Relaxation & Reduced Tension: The low-frequency vibrations of Vibroacoustic Therapy can relax muscle tissue and reduce spasticity. For example, studies show increased neck muscle range of motion in fibromyalgia and reduced limb spasticity in cerebral palsy (CP); leading to improved flexibility and better physical function.

Enhanced Motor Function in Neurological Conditions: Vibroacoustic therapy’s rhythmic stimulation, especially at 40 Hz, creates motor function benefits for people with neurological disorders. For example, research in Parkinson’s disease (PD) shows improvements in tremor, rigidity, gait, and balance after 12 weeks of 3 times weekly.

Cognitive Benefits: Sound frequencies used in Sound Therapy can create brainwave entrainment and modulate neural responses critical for neuroplasticity and cognitive functions. Studies show improved selective attention and emotional regulation in children with autism (ASD), enhanced sensory integration, and benefits for Alzheimer’s patients and people who have suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Is Sound Therapy Safe?

Yes. Sound therapy is gentle, non-invasive, and drug-free. There are no known serious side effects. That being said, it is best to make sure you are well hydrated before your session, to avoid possible dizziness, nausea, or headache afterward. Rarely, mild muscle soreness afterward (like from a massage) can happen.

It is possible to experience an emotional release during a session, such as tears or laughter. This is part of the healing process. Old unprocessed emotions can get stuck in our tissues; the sound vibrations may coax a release, causing us to feel that emotion. If we allow ourselves to feel it, the emotion will pass fairly quickly and be of benefit to the body and mind.

Do not use sound therapy if have: pregnancy; a pacemaker or implanted electronic device; active cancer; a recent surgery or injury; an active infection or fever; a severe seizure disorder; uncontrolled psychosis, schizophrenia or mania; a severe cardiac/lung issue; or blood clots/deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

How Do Sound Therapy Sessions Work?

We offer sessions of up to 25 minutes or up to 50 minutes. You will remain clothed for Sound Lounge sessions. We ask that you remove shoes, jackets, belts, earrings, smart-watches/rings, and that you wear light, non-binding clothing. You may cover yourself with a blanket if desired. Sound Therapy sessions are face-up only.

For optimal results, it is recommended to do 1-3 sessions per week, depending on your goals and condition. The best results occur with consistency over time. We recommend starting with the 10-minute demo, then 20 - 25-minute sessions, and over time, if you would like to do longer sessions, you may.

If you wish to add 22-minutes of Red Light Therapy to your Sound session, it is an additional cost. We ask that you first do 3 sessions of Sound Therapy alone, to know how it affects you, before adding Red Light.
