What Is Moxibustion?

Moxibustion is a practice which was derived from Chinese medicine, with the purpose of strengthening the blood, stimulating the flow of energy and maintaining good health. Moxibustion involves the burning of a Chinese herb called moxa (aka. mugwort or artemesia) which is a spongy herb that is believed to enhance the healing of acupuncture. Moxa can be used in various forms, however, the form used at Dawn Potter Acupuncture is a “moxa roll” which resembles a cigar. The moxa roll is burned and placed above the specific area of skin. During treatment it does not touch the skin and feels like radiant heat.
