It is the source of all true art and science."

Reiki

Reiki (pronounced "RAY-key") is a natural healing art that uses laying-on-of-hands to address body, mind and spirit imbalances. It enhances the body's ability to heal physical ailments and eases the mind and spirit.

The word, Reiki, is made up of two Japanese words: "Rei" which means "universal source" and "Ki" which means "life force or life energy". ("Ki" is the same as "Qi" in Chinese medicine). So, "Reiki" literally means, "universal life energy".

The practice of Reiki was born out of the experience and dedication of Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese educator who, in the early 1900’s undertook an extensive study of the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual healers. During a life-changing experience of light and energy, he received the gift of Reiki healing energy.

Dr. Usui spent the rest of his life practicing and teaching this method of natural healing, which involves attunement to the energy and the laying-on-of-hands. The Usui system of Reiki continues to be taught today by Reiki Masters throughout the world.

Reiki is a gentle energy that has been used to aid in healing nearly every known illness of mind, body and spirit. It does not replace traditional or natural medicine, but rather complements the healing process, and any type of healthcare treatment.

In a Reiki healing session, the client is fully clothed. The practitioner, trained to access and serve as a conduit for the Reiki energy, places her hands on or just above the client's body in order to transmit healing energy to receptive areas. The practitioner's hands progress slowly, with a passive touch, through several positions on the front and back of the body.

Reiki is deeply relaxing and creates a sense of wellbeing and peace. The sensation felt by the receiver of a Reiki treatment is usually a deep feeling of warmth and comfort.

Though Reiki is not a religion, and requires no specific beliefs, many find that it brings them closer to their own spirituality. People of all faiths practice and receive Reiki treatments. If you are a Christian with questions about Reiki & Christianity, please visit: www.christianreiki.org.
